The game of baccarat is played with two hands, the bank and the player. The aim of the game is to predict and bet on which 2-card hand will equal or be closest to 9. Two-card hand totals are calculated with face cards and 10s counting as 0, 1 to 9 as their face value and aces as 1. Should a hand total equal 10 or greater, then the left digit is dropped and the right become the hand’s total. A third card is drawn only if a hand total is less than 5.

During betting, a player can predict that either the player or the bank will have a total closer or equal to 9 or that the hand totals will be the same (a tie).
